Project 1 Showcase : My Island

Brief about the project : My Island
I am planning to create a game using CryEngine 3 (the engine in which Crysis game was developed).
I am attempting to create a standalone Game where by objective is mainly to learn the key features of CryEngine 3.

The following are the end results which I am planning to acheive :
- A fully developed Terrain and lanscape with - Natural looking Water Bodies, Trees, moving water - like waterfalls, Birds and other creatures such as fishes.Houses and a Village scene.
The environment should like real world.
- The Level must have intelligent characters who can react to sounds and visual cues. The characters must be able to freely interact with the Level Environment.
- Vehicles, Helicopters and Ships in the sea : They must be able to move and sail to reach their destination point.
- Game Logic : Develop a story around the Game and build a game logic around it.
- A fully functional dialogue delivery system where the characters not only interact with each other using voice but also display emotions and intelligent behavior.

Few other aspects which I shall add later.

I shall be updating the progress of my work throughout the month till 30th of June.If any one wishes to join me in this endeavour of learning Game Development, then you are welcome to joing me.Just be subscribe me and write comments.I will be most delighted to answer and work with you.

This is the overall layout of my level. This Island has Ocean all around. And the vally in the mountain is created as I wanted to see a vista in between the mountains.

This is a island somewhere in the middle of the Ocean. Here my objective was to use most of the environmental features provided in the cryengine But I guess I have been able to use less than 30% of the vast amount of features CryEngine has.The ones I implemented are as follows :
  • Terrain Modelling
  • Texturing of the terrain
  • Vegetation [Moving the vegetation naturally in the wind]
  • Modelling of the clouds which can move on its own.
  • Adding Birds and other creatures such as Turtles,Frogs,Fishes etc which can move about in the environment.
  • Adding whether conditions such as Rain,Lightening,Thunder,Tornadoes,Earthquakes,Simulation of rough weather.
  • Adding Natural sounds to the environment.
  • Time of the day settings: In other words working with Fog settings,Lighting,Sun direction and movement of the sun accross the horizon while the Game plays.
  • Adding water Volumes such as rivers,Lakes, waterfalls,Fountains etc
These are some of the screen shots of Project I.Most of these facinating landscape was created using the inbuilt tools of cryEngine.I have not yet used zBrush,Maya or Photoshop on it as of now (I plan to do so in my next project).

Progress Report :
22nd May 2012
Today I have added a character to my level. This character can walk up and down in the specified path from Point A to Point B in which the character navigates around the obstacles and finds the shortest route to the destination or in a path defined by me.I am adding a screenshot of the scene.

This blog would share my understanding of the CryEngine 3 Software Development Kit.I intend to do the following through this Blog :
  • Develop tutorials on CryEngine 3 SDK and share.
  • Showcase my progress on the Game Development projects which I am handling currently.
  • Interact and learn from like minded people who are also interested in this awesome SDK.
